eco-adventuresEco-Adventure Skill CoachingCome on out and polish your flatwater/introductory skills in an interesting location. We will work on forward, reverse and manoeuvring skills, as well as bracing and rescues if there is interest. Bring along your camera and binoculars; who knows what we will see. Please note: These are content courses, not simply day trips. You will be expected to work on kayaking skills while enjoying nature at it's best. These trips will also be weather dependent, as skills are coached at a Flatwater/Introductory level. Long Point and Rondeau (see below) are two possible locations, but if you have a special place you would like to go please suggest it and we will see what we can work out! Costs will be $125 per person per day, with a minimum of 2 people required to run the trip. Long PointLong Point is a 40 Km long sand spit that juts out into Lake Erie, and is recognized as a World Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations. It is an excellent location for birdwatching, as well as an ideal spot to see a wide variety of aquatic plants and amphibians. Trips would wind their way through the "rush forests" found on the inner bay side of the spit. RondeauRondeau is also a large sandspit jutting into Lake Erie. While not as long as Long Point, there are many more nooks and crannies to explore, making for excellent birdwatching. Trips would be on the inner, sheltered western side of the sandspit (wind and water conditions permitting). SeminarsBirding 101You've enjoyed watching birds, but have not always been able to identify what you are seeing? In Birding 101 we will take a systematic look at bird watching, and cover a few points that will help you increase your identification success. General topics covered will include basic bird morphology, identifiers to look for and the importance of proportion and motion. We will also look at identifiers for a few specific groups commonly seen in southwestern Ontario. A primer on optics selection will also be included. The cost of a 2 hour seminar is $50. If outside the Waterloo/Kitchener/Cambridge area there may be a nominal fee to cover transportation costs. |
